Police Reform Steering Group meeting of the MIA RT and the OSCE Office in Tajikistan

The First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Major General Nurillo Oripov has opened the meeting, noting that police reform issues have reached a qualitatively new level of cooperation.
“It is noted in the Message of President that during short-time period we should develop and present the “Police Reform Program,” which will be aimed at improving the structure of internal affairs institutions, at bringing its activities in compliance with the standards and acts of international law, as well as at the convergence between police and civil society,” said Oripov.
It was marked during the meeting that the Police Reform Program would be based on the Draft of Police Reform Strategy, developed in co-operation with the OSCE Office in Tajikistan. In this regard, it was decided to speed up completion process of drafting the Police Reform and Development Program of Tajikistan, which should be ready in a short time.
Mr. Alastair Livingston, the Head of Political-Military Department in the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, who headed the OSCE delegation, noted during his speech that the OSCE Office staff would also do their best in order to help the national team of experts to complete the draft of the Police Reform Program and Strategy, and thereby would speed up the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Police Reform between the Government of Tajikistan and the OSCE.
The meeting was followed by an awarding ceremony of Oliver Janser, the Counter Terrorism and Police Advisor of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, by the ministerial medal “For Assistance” of the MIA of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The medal “For Assistance” is awarded to citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan and foreign citizens, who made a significant contribution in the development of internal affairs agencies and Police of Tajikistan. The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, General of Army Rashid Nurgaliev, the Editor of “People’s Newspaper” Vladimir Vorob’yev are among those, who have been awarded by this medal.
