International Conference on Criminal Justice Responses to Terrorism

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Israel, in partnership with the Transnational Threats Department of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Terrorism Prevention Branch of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and in consultation with the UN Executive Directorate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the Security Council (UNCTED) has organized an International Conference on Criminal Justice Responses to Terrorism from 10 to 12 November 2014. The conference, which was held in Tel Aviv, was attended by the representatives of 28 countries of the world.
It brought together senior criminal justice officers and experts in the counter terrorism - judges, prosecutors, law enforcement and other relevant national officers from the OSCE participating States and OSCE Partners for Co-operation, as well as experts from UNODC, OSCE, UNCTED, and other relevant international, regional and sub-regional organizations, including the European Union (EU) structures.
The event was dedicated to topics such as "Preventing terrorist acts through a criminal justice approach integrating the rule of law"; "Handling of classified and/or intelligence-derived evidence: outlining challenges which governments ought to address when classified information is involved"; "Investigation and prosecution of terrorism financing"; as well as "Challenges to judicial independence in terrorism cases: maintaining judicial independence under intense scrutiny."
The Republic of Tajikistan was represented by the Deputy Head of the Combating Organized Crime Department (COCD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Republic of Tajikistan (RT) and the Police Reform Project staff of Counter-Terrorism and Police Unit of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.
The representative of the MIA RT while making a presentation has shared about the MIA activities on countering terrorism in Tajikistan and about its results for 2014. Within the 9 months of 2014, 7 members of the terrorist group "Musulmononi Soleh", 1 - "Jabhat an-Nusra", 12 - "Ansorulloh", 3 - "Taliban", 2 - "Pro-Iranian criminal group", 8 - "The Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan", 3 - "Jamoat ul-Tabligh", 4 - "Hizb-ut-Tahrir" and 39 - "bandit groups and illegal armed groups". During the 2014 five terrorist acts were prevented by the staff of the COCD MIA RT and one previously committed terrorist act was disclosed by them.
