Police Reform Coordination Meeting

Coordination meeting on police reform was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the participation of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Major General of Police Umarzoda Ikrom Islom, national coordinator for police reform, Major General of Police Shodmonzod Farhodbek, leaders of the central apparatus, representatives of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as representatives of organizations of the OSCE Office in Dushanbe and the international organization "Safe World" on 27 August 2019.

Umarzod Ikrom Islom expressed his gratitude to the participants for their technical and financial assistance on improving the infrastructure of the Ministry of the Interior, and for increasing the level of knowledge and professional skills of police staff members. He noted that one of the main tasks of the police is to restore close cooperation with the population. The purpose of the forum is also the collective activity of the Ministry of the Interior and social partners in the process of police reform, in order to implement the directions of police reform in close cooperation of all possibilities and means.
Since the rapprochement of the police with the population, the growth of citizens' trust in the internal affairs bodies and the increase in the authority of the police officer among the population is one of the main directions of police reform.

 

The national coordinator Shodmonzoda Farhodbek noted that more than 50 centers for police and public interaction, public councils, tourism departments and observers for the prevention of domestic violence under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of cities and regions of the republic have been created and are functioning, which make a worthy contribution to the development of activities and cooperation of citizens with the police.

The meeting was continued by a representatives of the office of the OSCE Office in Dushanbe, to facilitate the police reform process, Bahrom Abdullaev and OSCE National human rights officer Khaidar Makhmadiev. At the meeting, the participants proposed effective proposals for the development and improvement of police cooperation with civil society.
