The presentation ceremony of the regular Report on drug situation

There was a presentation ceremony of the regular Report (Review) on drug situation in Tajikistan for 2012, prepared by the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan by the financial support of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, today, on 15 April, in Dushanbe.

The Deputy Director of the Agency Ms. Bunafsha Odinaeva, Counter Terrorism and Police Adviser of the OSCE OiT Mr. Ulf Billving, representatives from the US Embassy in Tajikistan, Federal Drug Control Service of the Russian Federation, heads of the main subdivisions of the DCA, OSCE OiT and mass media.

Ulf Billving, in his speech, has noted that within the framework of implementation of the OSCE project “Drug Prevention Campaign,” the OSCE Office in Tajikistan has been assisting the Republic of Tajikistan to implement the National Strategy on combating illicit drug trafficking for almost five years based on the plan. “Only this year, we have supported such initiatives of the MIA of Tajikistan, as conduction of sport tournaments under the motto “Sport without drugs.” On 10 April, just five days ago, in co-operation with the MIA we have conducted an international scientific and practical conference “International Conference in the field of combating organized transnational drug-crimes,” said Mr. Billving.

 

“We are actively cooperating with the DCA under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan as well. Within the framework of the joint project implementation “Drug Prevention Campaign,” we conduct annually advocacy and preventive events, and assist in issuing of “Information-analytical Report on drug situation in the Republic of Tajikistan.” This good tradition is still ongoing. I am glad that our national partners are taking every measures to implement the new Strategy on combating illicit drug trafficking for the period of 2013-2020,” has emphasized in his speech the OSCE representative, marking that the distribution of the Report amongst: the state structures of Tajikistan; competent agencies of the CIS member-states; as well as the embassies and international organizations, accredited in the country; public associations and mass media will enable to provide all stakeholders a comprehensive and reliable information regarding the drug situation in the country and Tajik law enforcement agencies’ work results.”

 

“I am confident that publication of the Report will make a contribution to combat illicit drug distribution and will give an opportunity to enhance the anti-drug intergovernmental collaboration both on regional level and on international scale,” said in conclusion Mr. Billving.

The Report is published in Tajik, Russian and English languages.
