Drug Prevention Campaign

At the end of 2014 the Public Organization (PO) "Source of Life" in cooperation with the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan held the Drug Prevention Campaign within the project "Implementation of precautionary and preventive anti-drug and sport events", which has been funded by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan since 2008 year.

The overall objective of the project was to promote healthy lifestyle versus the drug use and reduce the scales of spreading the drug addiction and crime related to it in the cities and districts of the Republic of Tajikistan, where the project was implemented. The population of the 16 cities and districts, such as Khujand, Istaravshan, Isfara, Kanibadam Kairakkum, Jabbor Rasulov and Spitamen of Sughd region, as well as Kurgan-Tyube, Sarband, Yavan, Abdurahmoni Jomi, Qumsangir, Jaloliddini Rumi, Vakhsh and Bohtar of Khatlon region, and Vahdat have received an information about the harmful effects of illicit drug trafficking and its abuse in the form of theatrical and satirical anti-drug speeches, performances and printed materials.

Mainly the campaign’s participants were children and teenagers. It is expected that in the long-term prospect the mentioned category of the population to a greater extent will not be susceptible to drug use.

The project was implemented according to the planned objectives and has achieved the main goal - a healthy lifestyle promotion and improvement of cooperation between the PO "Source of Life" and local authorities. Also, the organizers of the Anti-Drug Actions have enriched their experience in the field of preventive and prophylactic actions. The resources of the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the community and PO "Source of life" were used to implement the project idea. The project activities were managed by the PO "Source of life". The list of the outreach team from the employees of the PO "Source of life" and the DCA under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, representatives of culture and creative groups of Tajikistan was selected and approved.

The slogans and banners were made for the design of stages and other places, where the campaign was conducted. Moreover, 3,000 leaflets and booklets on drug prevention, which were distributed amongst 7,000 participants, including 3,000 youth, were published. Furthermore, the OSCE has organized T-shirts and caps with the OSCE, PO "Source of life" and DCA logos. There was a contest of children's drawings under the motto "Children in Tajikistan are against drugs" in the cities and districts of Khujand, Istaravshan, Isfara, Kanibadam Kairakkum, Jabbor Rasulov and Spitamen of Sughd region. The promotional gifts were awarded to active participants and winners of competitions and sports events to encourage them.

In general, the organized activities have received good feedback from both the participants and state authorities and local NGOs. The events were held at a high organizational level.
