Conducting of the Working Sub-Group in Kurgan-tyube

Upon completion of the meeting with the Civil Society in Kulyab, the National Team of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan (OiT) on Police Reform in the same composition went to Kurgan- Tube.

 

On 7 May 2014 a regular meeting of the Working Sub-Group on Civil Society Assistance to Police Reform was organized in the OSCE Field Office in Kurgan-Tyube. The meeting involved representatives of civil society, such as lawyers, representatives of the NGOs, human rights defenders, as well as staff of the local internal affairs and other law enforcement agencies. The OSCE Field Office in Kurgan-Tyube was represented by Ms. Erica Masiero Field Officer and Ms. Firuza Sultonova Field assistant.

According to the agenda the draft Provision of Public Council on Civil Society Assistance to the Police Reform (hereinafter - the Provision) was discussed, comments and suggestions were made into the Provision and the police reform process in general was discussed.

Mr. Mahmadiev Khaydar the OSCE OiT National Liaison Officer on Police Reform shared information on police reform process with the participants of the event. He informed that the Police Reform Program and the Action Plan for its implementation was approved by the Decree #296 of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on May 3, 2014. Further Mr. Mahmadiev asked participants sharing their feedbacks to introduce them into the draft Provision. This document will be considered during the next Police Reform Steering Group meeting at the political level on 16 May 2014.

Participants of the meeting actively have discussed the draft Provision and made their comments and recommendations, which were immediately introduced into the document.

At the end of the meeting it was decided that members of the Subgroup will send their final comments and suggestions before 12 May 2014.

The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
