Workshop on “The Legal guaranties for an access to the information”

A public organization "Independent Human Rights Centre," the head of which is Sergey Romanov, who is a Chairperson of the Sub-group "Civil Society Advisory Group to the Police Reform," has organized a workshop on "The legal guarantees of access to the information" from 2 to 3 December 2013 in Dushanbe.

The event was aimed to assist representatives of member organizations from the Coalition of NGOs against Torture in Tajikistan, barristers and mass media staff in access to information about the activities of public authorities and the receipt of data of public interest in accordance with national and international standards in the field of access to information.

According to Sergey Romanov, the seminar was attended by 25 representatives of member organizations of the Coalition and journalists, who are specialized in covering the issues of criminal justice and prevention of torture, as well as practicing lawyers from Dushanbe, Khatlon and Soghd regions, GBAO (Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast) and DRS (Districts of Republican Subordination).

Fatima Yakupbaeva (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan), the Senior Consultant of the Public Association "Partners Group Precedent" made a presentation as an expert.

During the seminar, an international expert has explained to participants the methods and techniques of access to information of public interest, which are successfully used by Kyrgyz partners.

The event was held with the financial support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

The work involved the lawyers and practicing barristers, who have been trained in media law and have practical experience on issues of access to information and the mass media activities.
