Istaravshan: table tennis competition in the framework of drug prevention campaign among youth

Over the last nine years, as part of the project on “Implementation of precautionary and preventive anti-drug events”, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (OSCE) together with Tajikistan’s law enforcement agencies has carried out an awareness raising campaign on drug prevention in all the regions and districts of Tajikistan. 

This year, with the financial support of the OSCE, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan (MIA) has started conducting sports competitions in mini-football, valley-ball, table tennis, draughts and chess from 21 to 29 August 2017 in Istaravshan, Bobojon Gafurov, Isfara and Asht districts of Tajikistan. These competitions are dedicated to the official Year of Youth in Tajikistan and promote a healthy lifestyle through sports.

Table tennis competition among individuals and teams players took place on 21 August in Istaravshan city. Deputy Head of Regional Directorate of MIA in Sughd region - Colonel Pirumshozoda Nuriddin, Deputy Mayor of Istarvashan city - Ms Nigora Khayrzoda, Chief of district's Department of MIA in Istaravshan city - Colonel Shamsullo Mahmudov and First deputy chairperson of republican Council “Dinamo” of  MIA Lieutenant Colonel Shohiyon Asliddin attended the event. More than 40 young tennis players participated at the competition, where 1000 fans watched their game. Females comprised around 60% of attendants.
